About Your Group Leader

Kundai Chirindo
Professor of Rhetoric & Media Studies

Kundai Chirindo is the former Director of General Education at Lewis & Clark, and currently an Associate professor of Rhetoric & Media Studies. He is interested in discourses that relate to the African continent. Professor Chirindo contributes to scholarly conversations in rhetorical studies, environmental communication, African and African American Studies, and war and peace studies. In writing his dissertation he took the emergence of Barack Obama in 2005 to 2008 as an opportunity to think about how ideas of Africa are performed in American public life. Kundai shows a commitment as a teacher, advisor, and mentor of our students. He recently worked with a student on a project analyzing five films by Rwandan filmmakers and trying to get a sense of how it is they imagine the trauma that was the Rwandan genocide. Some examples of his classes include Communication and “the Environment”, and Race, Rhetoric, Resistance. Dr. Chirindo has traveled widely across Africa including regular visits to South Africa.
