For thousands of years, a variety of people and groups have lived in—and contested—the land and regions of Israel/Palestine. To gain a better understanding of this land and its peoples, Professors Mark George and Pamela Eisenbaum are conducting an 11 day tour to Israel/Palestine as an immersion course. With the expert help of Mejdi Tours, the immersion course considers Israel/Palestine through a combination of past and present. Drawing on their expertise, Professors Eisenbaum and George guide participants through the study of ancient Israel, the time of Jesus and the early church, rabbinic Judaism, and the Crusader period. Such study lays the ground work for conversations with representatives from various groups as they speak to the modern Israeli-Palestinian conflict, since the past continually informs and affects the present. The experience in Israel/Palestine is enhanced by Mejdi’s dual narrative tour model: some days include two local guides, one Israeli and one Palestinian.

Explore the wild beauty of the Arabian Peninsula with an add-on to Petra, Wadi Rum, and Jerash. The perfect combination of relaxation, education, and adventure, with only a few extra days you can:

● Experience traditional Arabian desert life in the valleys of Wadi Rum. Share coffee with bedouins, see camels in their natural habitat, and view rock inscriptions (ancient and modern) left by local tribes.

● Explore the ancient Nabatean city of Petra! Walk through wind-swept sandstone valleys with stunning rock striations, and discover the echoing chambers of ancient tombs. The more adventurous can ride a horse or a donkey through the valleys of this the famous “Indiana Jones” filming site.

All the trips we take are educational and geared towards cultural immersion, and that’s true of MEJDI. But none are so first hand and intentionally personal as the MEJDI tour guides are.
