JEWISH CLERGY PROJECT FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE IN ISRAEL/PALESTINE

At a time when many in the Jewish community are feeling despair at the situation in Israel/Palestine, the goal of this trip is to connect us–rabbis, cantors, and other Jewish clergy—to some of the compelling work for justice and peace being done on the ground in the Holy Land. The trip is geared to those who do not need an introduction to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or the realities of occupation, but who seek to learn from and be inspired by Israelis and Palestinians working nonviolently for transformation.  We are asking participants to come with an open mind for bearing witness, and to make a commitment to help support the efforts we will be learning about when we return, in whatever form feels appropriate.  We aspire to learn together, to wrestle with challenging realities together, and together begin to shape a new narrative that promotes ahavat yoshvei ha’aretz, a commitment to seeking compassion, security and justice for all who dwell in the land.

Visit all the must see sites, while being guided , by an Israeli and a Palestinian, in an immersive travel experience that takes you behind the doors of mosques, churches, and synagogues, through the halls of Palestinian and Israeli government, into active dig sites, and into the homes of Arab, Jewish, and Druze locals.

● The trip will include visits with/activities organized by groups including Combatants for Peace, Omdim B’Yachad, Rabbis for Human Rights, Siraj, Taghyeer, and others.

● Trip fees include all land costs (except a few dinners on your own) and a contribution for each of the organizations that will be hosting us.

● We will be staying in Palestinian-owned hotels in East Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

● Erev Shabbat dinner will be hechshered, and the other meals that are provided will be vegetarian/pescatarian; hechshered meals can be arranged upon request.

● We ask everyone to arrive at the hotel in East Jerusalem by 5pm on Thursday, November 10, and the formal portion of the trip will end the evening of Wednesday, November 16 (stay tuned for possible add-ons both before and after the trip). We ask participants to remain with the group throughout the trip.

● There will be a moderate amount of physical activity involved on some of the days, both working on local projects (working on a community garden, olive picking) and some hiking.

You come away hopeful because the tour guides can have such different backgrounds and experiences and opinions and still respect each other, And, they introduce you to groups that are working to spread that throughout the world.
