About Your Group Leaders​

Freddy Vilches & Megan McDonald

Megan McDonald has been teaching Spanish language at Lewis & Clark since 2007. She is an editor and contributing author of Spanish textbooks. Before LC she taught at the University of Oregon and University of Washington. Megan is looking forward to exploring Chile from Santiago to Patagonia.

Freddy Vilches was born and raised in Santiago and travels there a couple of times a year. He joined the faculty at Lewis & Clark in 2006, specializing in Latin American Literature of the 20th and 21st centuries. Currently, he is working on a manuscript on the use of poetry in the Chilean New Song Movement, and published articles on Chilean and Latin American detective novels. He is an accomplished musician, composer and producer. Professor Vilches has led four successful alumni and friends trips to Cuba over the last 5 years. 

Together, Freddy and Megan have traveled across Latin America including Mexico, Cuba, and Bolivia, and have been leaders for semester-long student programs to Cuba and Mexico. They have raised 3 bilingual children, the youngest of whom is a Freshman at Lewis & Clark. The entire family has spent much time in Chile.
