The trip described below has been adapted for a smaller group and overlaps only one Shabbat, which will be celebrated in Jerusalem. Most experienes outlined in the “tour itinerary” attached below will be retained in the revised trip program.  Rabbi Lizzi Heydemann will lead the group.

Mishkan Chicago and the Kavana Cooperative are taking our second trip together to Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Envelope, to explore Israeli and Palestinian realities in a nuanced and multidimensional way. We’ll be on both sides of the Green Line, learning about the painful and poignant realities that both Palestinians and Israelis are living with. As two progressive Jewish spiritual communities, we’ll build spiritual practice and reflection into everything we do, as we try to understand our role in healing what’s broken and supporting the activists, artists, scholars and change-makers in the region. Expect a robust sense of community among our group, truly great food, warm Palestinian and Israeli hospitality, Shabbatot in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, and the support of Rabbis Lizzi Heydemann and Rachel Nussbaum on the journey with you every step of the way.

Rabbi Lizzi Heydemann is the founder and Senior Rabbi at Mishkan Chicago, an independent, post-denominational Jewish spiritual community in Chicago, Il whose mission is to lead people toward purpose, connection and inspiration through Jewish tradition and practice.

At 14 years old, Mishkan has about 600 Builder (member) households, and a reach of about 5,000 people per year, digital content that reaches in the hundreds of thousands, youth, teen and adult learning programs, and is a hub for Jewish music making. MEJDI was one of the first global tour companies to earn B Corp Certification back in 2014, long before B Corp became widely recognized beyond sustainability circles. For us, this certification is a transparent way to demonstrate that we stand by our values: we ensure local vendors are paid fair wages, prioritize small, locally-owned businesses, and treat our partners and staff with dignity and respect. This deep commitment to social change drives MEJDI’s mission: “We exist to create a more peaceful and interconnected world through travel.”
