I want to invite you to join me for a journey to Israel and Palestine that is
meant to be as meaningful as it is eye-opening. Over the course of the week,
we’ll walk the streets of Jerusalem, pray at the Western Wall (Kotel), and
stand on the Temple Mount while hearing from both Israeli and Palestinian
guides about what this sacred place means to them. We’ll visit Yad Vashem
and reflect on the enduring moral weight of Jewish memory, welcome Shabbat
together in Jerusalem, and spend time with educators, activists, and
community leaders who are working, often against the odds, to build a more
just and shared future. We’ll also encounter the energy of Tel Aviv, meet
Israelis from many different communities, and listen to Palestinian voices
about life in this land today. My hope is that this trip will challenge us, deepen
our understanding, and give us the opportunity to wrestle together with the
history, beauty, pain, and possibility of this extraordinary place.

Your Group Leader

Rabbi Josh Whinston has served as the Senior Rabbi of Temple Beth Emeth in Ann Arbor, Michigan since 2016. His work focuses on building a vibrant, thoughtful Jewish community rooted in learning, ethical responsibility, spiritual depth, and meaningful relationships. Rabbi Whinston is deeply committed to Jewish learning and teaching across generations. His sermons and classes bring classical Jewish texts into conversation with contemporary moral and social challenges, inviting congregants to engage seriously with Jewish tradition while applying its wisdom to modern life. He is particularly passionate about creating spaces where people can wrestle with difficult questions, deepen their Jewish identity, and strengthen their commitment to community.

In addition to his teaching and pastoral work, Rabbi Whinston is involved in leadership initiatives that support Jewish learning, communal dialogue, and engagement with Israel and global Jewish life. He is a current fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute and previously served as a Brickner Rabbinic Fellow and an American Jewish World Service Global Justice Fellow, programs that reflect his commitment to Jewish ethical leadership and social responsibility. Rabbi Whinston was ordained at the Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles, where he also earned master’s degrees in Hebrew Letters and Jewish Education. He previously served congregations in Connecticut, California, and Washington State before coming to Temple Beth Emeth.

MEJDI was one of the first global tour companies to earn B Corp Certification back in 2014, long before B Corp became widely recognized beyond sustainability circles. For us, this certification is a transparent way to demonstrate that we stand by our values: we ensure local vendors are paid fair wages, prioritize small, locally-owned businesses, and treat our partners and staff with dignity and respect. This deep commitment to social change drives MEJDI’s mission: “We exist to create a more peaceful and interconnected world through travel.”
