Go behind the scenes in Scotland with the University of Wyoming. Join UW faculty who have developed the renowned UW in Scotland program and built unique relationships and opportunities in the land of mists. Enjoy all of the access and interest—with none of the homework!
Caroline McCracken-Flesher, scholar of Scottish Literature, and Isa Helfgott, expert in Museum Studies, are your guides for ten days in “Unexpected Scotland.” Travel the Lowlands, touch the coast, and skim the Highlands. You’ll stay within sight of Edinburgh’s remarkable castle, at the author Walter Scott’s historic home, and experience Steampunk Glasgow. Following UW’s unique, wide open view of the world, our study tour will visit castles and reclaimed coal mines, massive art installations (the Kelpies) and engineering marvels (the Falkirk Wheel). We’ll slow down to study a garden, and leap into Scottish dance. Get ready to visit Scotland’s leading mill (and buy some tartan), the oldest occupied tower house and its brewery, a west coast castle and its smugglers’ caves. And of course we’ll drop by Rabbie Burns, take a walk over the Brig o’ Doon, explore museums and stately homes, take a spin on Loch Lomond, taste some whisky, and experience the past and present of Glasgow, the Merchant City.
