University of Wyoming Group Leaders

Caroline McCracken-Flesher directs the Center for Global Studies at the University of Wyoming and has led three UW delegations to Tunisia. She has held a Fulbright Specialist Award in North Africa, and has a special interest in America’s touristic history in the Mediterranean. A professor of English, she works daily on her Arabic— when she is not teaching British (especially Scottish) literature, or Mark Twain’s travels to Palestine. She was educated at Edinburgh, Oxford and Brown universities, and at UW has served as Faculty Senate Chair and Department Head. She has won numerous awards for teaching and research, including the George Duke Humphrey, UW’s highest recognition for faculty achievement and service.

Paul V. M. Flesher is a UW Professor of Religious Studies whose expertise lies in the peoples of the Mediterranean world, from the Canaanites/Phoenicians—who founded Carthage—to their neighbors, the Israelites and Philistines, to the Romans—who conquered the Carthaginians and made their territory Rome’s first overseas colony. With degrees from Rochester, Oxford  and Brown universities, as well as extensive study in the Middle East and North Africa, he has spent his career teaching and researching the history, religion, culture and archaeology of Mediterranean peoples, ancient and modern. Presently he directs UW’s American Heritage Center, where he works to preserve the historical records of America and the West.

MEJDI was one of the first global tour companies to earn B Corp Certification back in 2014, long before B Corp became widely recognized beyond sustainability circles. For us, this certification is a transparent way to demonstrate that we stand by our values: we ensure local vendors are paid fair wages, prioritize small, locally-owned businesses, and treat our partners and staff with dignity and respect. This deep commitment to social change drives MEJDI’s mission: “We exist to create a more peaceful and interconnected world through travel.”
